Objective: |
A position using my skills and experience to plan, organize and direct the design and visual presentation of exhibits and exhibit-related products. |
Summary of Qualifications: |
Consistently produce work that exceeds the expectations of my clients, delivering at a higher level than seemed possible given budget and time constraints. Adaptable in my practices and driven by passion for the subjects chosen to focus on. I’m a Kansas raised artist who has proudly helped to tell the story of Kansas and to serve the communities that I’ve come into contact with during my years working both in the private sector and as an educator and professional artist. Working with the Kansas Historical Society as a Public Service Executive (Visual Information Specialist) is truly a position I would relish the opportunity to fill in that it would give me the kind of personal and professional satisfaction that few are lucky enough to obtain. |
Exhibit Design, |
Worked on exhibits large and small, from start to finish, from early planning thru design, final production and installation. Helped with the planning of exhibits with million-dollar budgets as well as fully realizing complex and immersive exhibits with even small budgets in the thousands and even hundreds. Worked as an intern, production consultant, lead designer, primary photographer, videographer, project manager, art director, interactive designer, curator and even featured artist. Helped to personally produce or to contract the production of various elements that made up the exhibits. In all cases, have striven to seek out projects that are important to not only myself but to my community, telling stories with my work and applying my skills to relate the subjects to the interest of the audience. |
Communication: |
As an educator, researcher and artist not only designed, prepared and taught original course work, but have also been asked to give numerous presentations to a wide range of groups about my work as an artist and researcher. This has taken me around the state and more broadly the Midwest. In the process of presenting my work, have had the opportunity to connect with thousands of Kansans and have established lasting relationships. Have served as a liaison to many Historical Societies around the Flint Hills as part of my duties at the Chapman Center at K-State. |
Software/ |
Proficient with a broad range of software and have a reputation for quickly learning, adapting the use of, and mastering software that is required for the projects. Proficient with the Adobe suite and have used nearly every application professionally, some on a daily basis. Have also worked with many other new and emerging technologies and have incorporated these into my practice. Incorporated many such technologies (software and hardware) into the installations and exhibits I’ve helped to design and implement. Have extensive work experience as a photographer and videographer, web/interactive as well as print designer, photographic restoration and digital archiving (including the digitization of motion pictures for the State Archives). Licensed as a commercial drone pilot. Earned degrees in Graphic Design, Photography and Digital Art. Known for my ability to quickly learn and adopt the use of new and emerging technologies. |
EDUCATION: | Have considerable experience in project management and have served in the role of project leader and art director on a large number of projects. In all aspects of my work have striven to lead by example and have taught necessary skills to those who work under me in order to achieve the quality of work that I expect from others as well as myself. My experience as an educator is also very informative to my leadership strategies. In all cases I have striven to create harmonious and united efforts as I have coordinated and worked with community organizations and committees and individuals charged with the production of exhibit elements. |
