Place of Death: Japanese Prisoner Of War Camp #4 near Tarlac, Luzon, Philipines. Body was never recovered.
Grave Location: Mixed findings state his body was never recovered, but American Battle Monuments Commision lists him as being burried at the American Cemetery in Manila, Philippines.
Bio: Clyde I. Hinrichs was a Private First Class in the Army during World War II. Clyde resided in Riley County, Kansas before enlisting on September 27, 1940. At the time of enlistment, Clyde was 20 years old, had 2 years of college education and was single, without dependents. Two years later, Clyde was captured by Imperial Japan while serving in the Philippine Islands, and was sent to PW Camp #4 (Camp O'Donnell) near Tarlac, Luzon, Philippines where 2,160 other American POWs were held. Clyde's capture was first reported to the International Committee of the Red Cross on May 7, 1942, and the last report was made on May 26, 1942. Based on these two reports, Clyde was imprisoned for at least 19 days, one of the shorter durations of captivity recorded, the average being 363 days. Ultimately, Clyde died as a prisoner of war.
