Bio:  Gene D. Van De Walker was born in 1923 at Souix City, Iowa to Ray Wesley Van De Walker and Dolly Blanch (Richardson) Van De Walker.  His parents divorced when Gene was still a young lad.  By 1940, Gene and his two siblings were living in Minneapolis, Minnesota with their divorced mother, Dolly. Gene attended 3 years of high school before he entered the military on May 8, 1943 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.  It is unknown his connection with Riley County but it more than likely came from his association with Fort Riley.  His military records detailing his death and location is not currently known.  His mother and sister, Nadene, are also buried in the Sunset Cemetery located in Manhattan, Kansas.
